Asst. Prof. Jaymilyn C. Ombao Receives 2024 UPMAA Distinguished Alumni Award
The College of Allied Medical Professions (CAMP) proudly congratulates Asst. Prof. Jaymilyn C. Ombao for being honored with the 2024 UP Manila Alumni Association (UPMAA) Distinguished Alumni Award. She was recognized for her exemplary contributions in clinical audiology, speech-language pathology, and education during the UPMAA Annual Homecoming and General Assembly held on October 19, 2024, at the Henry Sy Hall, UP College of Medicine.
As a clinical audiologist and educator, Asst. Prof. Ombao has made significant strides in advancing audiological care in the Philippines. She is a key figure in promoting the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Act (RA 9709), having contributed to the certification of screeners and facilities across the country. Her leadership in developing the Family Education Program and her contributions to public health initiatives like the Newborn Hearing Screening Registry reflect her commitment to serving Filipino families.
Beyond her clinical and academic roles, Asst. Prof. Ombao has actively shaped national health policies. Her co-authorship of the revised Manual of Operations and Procedures for RA 9709 and her membership in the Department of Health’s Task Force on Hearing Disorders are just a few examples of her extensive involvement in public service and policy development.
In addition to her public service, Asst. Prof. Ombao has been instrumental in advancing clinical audiology education. As coordinator of the Master of Clinical Audiology program, she led the successful revision of the curriculum in 2023. Her role as a mentor to students and her leadership in professional organizations, such as the Association of Clinical Audiologists of the Philippines, have further solidified her impact on the field.
Asst. Prof. Ombao’s recognition as a UPMAA Distinguished Alumni Awardee highlights her unwavering dedication to public service, education, and healthcare. Her work continues to inspire students, professionals, and colleagues, embodying the Tatak-UP values of honor and excellence in the service of the nation.
