The University of the Philippines Manila College of Allied Medical Professions (UP CAMP) took an active role in empowering Special Education (SPED) and Kindergarten teachers during a division-wide capacity-building program organized by the Department of Education (DepEd) Manilaโ€™s Curriculum Implementation Division. Held on November 28 at Dr. Albert Elementary School, Dapitan, Manila, the event aimed to equip educators with innovative teaching strategies and updated curriculum content to enhance their professional growth.

The training focused on:

  • Practical tips and strategies for managing learners with ADHD, Autism, and disruptive behaviors.
  • Preparing learners with disabilities for mainstreaming, partial inclusion, and full inclusion classrooms.
  • Charting ways forward for DepEd Manila Schools to create more inclusive environments.

Several faculty members from UP CAMP served as resource speakers, sharing their expertise to inspire and guide the participants. Asst. Prof. Guia Rabacca provided strategies to help teachers adapt to students’ diverse behaviors in the classroom. Asst. Prof. Mike Valdez emphasized the critical role of effective communication in fostering learning and engagement. Asst. Prof. Grace Kang highlighted ways to adapt physical activities for learners with special needs. Senior Lecturer Dr. Geevee Caballa introduced the Universal Design for Learning, demonstrating how inclusive teaching practices can engage neurodivergent learners.

Dean Mia Rotor concluded the morning session by underscoring the collaborative role of educators and allied health professionals in building inclusive classrooms, emphasizing that this partnership is vital for achieving a truly inclusive society. She also reiterated UP CAMPโ€™s commitment to working alongside government institutions to reach this shared vision.

This meaningful collaboration is one of the highlights of UP CAMPโ€™s 62nd founding anniversary, embodying its dedication to creating โ€œSocieties for All.โ€
