CAMP Reinforces Safe Spaces Through Gender Sensitivity and Anti-Sexual Harassment Orientations
The College of Allied Medical Professions (CAMP) is taking concrete steps to foster a safe and inclusive environment for all. As part of Dean Mia Rotor’s priority initiatives, the CAMP Committee on Gender and Women organized a two-day series of orientations for faculty members and staff on February 19 and 20, conducted in a hybrid format via Zoom and at CAMP Rooms 504 and 505.
Jose Mateo R. Dela Cruz, Student Relations Officer and Gender & Development Coordinator of the UP Manila School of Health Sciences – Extension Campus in Tarlac, facilitated the first session on Introduction to SOGIESC and Gender Sensitivity. The discussion centered on understanding sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics (SOGIESC) and their implications in fostering an inclusive academic and professional environment.
The second session, Anti-Sexual Harassment Orientation, was led by Dr. Valerie P. Tiempo-Guinto, Director of the UP Manila Office of Anti-Sexual Harassment (OASH). This session provided crucial insights into recognizing, preventing, and addressing sexual harassment within the university, reinforcing CAMP’s commitment to upholding a safe space for all members of its community.
These initiatives are only the beginning, as CAMP plans to extend similar activities to students and other stakeholders. By deepening awareness and understanding of gender sensitivity and anti-harassment policies, CAMP continues to create a culture of inclusivity, respect, and safety for everyone.
Both events were organized by the CAMP Gender and Women Committee, led by Asst. Prof. Charlemaine Deane Perez, along with committee members Asst. Prof. Jaymilyn C. Ombao (CAMP OASH Representative – Faculty), Ms. Kizha Marie Gabutan, Ms. Shana Tan, Mr. Jilen Mar Paulo Isla, Mr. Thomas Quiros, Ms. Dianalyn Villamor, and Ms. Vanessa Cosio (CAMP OASH Representative – Administrative Staff), in partnership with the UP Manila Office of Anti-Sexual Harassment.
